Use of Oils
As well as being a natural source for pleasing perfume scents to wear, oils can be added to massage oils for aromatherapy, to bath water, and to potpourri and charms. They can be added to incense to intensify affect, or dropped directly on to burning charcoal or to a flame to diffuse the scent throughout a room. There are special trays one can purchase to diffuse oils with light bulbs.
Essential and Fragrant oils are a significant part of magical workings and ritual, and it is useful to be able to use a highly specific blend as part of an anointing or service. Whether anointing a body or consecrating a tool, scents can help evoke a magical atmosphere.
Some essential oils can be used as flea control for pets, and rubbing a little catnip on a sock in the presence of most any cat will soon render the sock fuller of holes. A touch of lemon oil will keep said cat from scratching on furniture. Some scents (as well as herbs) can keep ants at bay (bay leaves literally being one such item), and some oils are useful at warding off mosquitos and flies. A whiff of eucalyptus oil can help relieve congested sinuses -- the mundane and practical uses of oils are limitless.
